| 2003/2004 Season REVIEW by captain Webb |
It is easy to get into a doom and gloom mood when you complete the season with a defeat and just six shots on goal all game.
Naturally it is always disappointing to finish a campaign off on a losing note but as guest Webmaster, I would also point out there have been plenty of pluses and there are many teams in the Cymru Alliance who wish they were in our shoes. Great pitch, fabulous changing complex, positive bank balance and the list is endless.
Number one priority for us all is to pick up the pieces and etch out a strategy to bring over-due success to the club. Thoughts on a post card please!
Looking back though, it is always difficult to recover from losing such quality players as Craig Williams and Russ Pritchard and we never ever replaced them. Danny Purdie and Kevin Todd missed too many games though injury and vacation, which did also not help our cause either.
When you think that Crags has not played since last Summer and was second to top scorer just the odd goal behind Robbie Nevitt, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to work out what has gone wrong.
We managed to bury the hatchet up on Anglesey though and now know how to win there but another season went by with poor performances against our old adversaries LEX XI. Have we ever beaten them since rejoining the Cymru Alliance????
Not everyone connected with the club were 100% behind guest players from Cefn Druids being used. Regardless of whether you were for or against the ploy, the key thing for me was how it best emphasises that we are just 2 or 3 players short of being a very decent team.
Whilst Evo has ended his reign as Reserve Team Head Honcho, it must be pleasing for him to see Sean Williams in particular, Haggis, Lloydy, Keeno, Gareth Pugh Jones, Matty Davies, Nursey and Robbie Jones all get their chance throughout the season.
It will be a hard working close season for the committee and managers as they strive to make the club more successful next season.
Gresford Athletic are looking for programme and match day sponsors for next season, please contact the club.
